Ron (RJ) Schutt
Co-Founder & Board Chair
Ron was the Founding President/CEO of OrVance in 2014 and retired after finalizing an exclusive partnership agreement with DOC Brands to manage the ongoing growth of the OrVance® brands and products. As Board Chair, Ron continues to oversee the ongoing governance and strategic direction of OrVance LLC, serves as an Advisory Board Member to the OrVance-DOC Brands Venture, and is the primary contact for Business Development and/or M&A opportunities for OrVance. Prior to starting OrVance, Ron spent over 20 years in healthcare and previously served as Vice President of Consumer Healthcare Marketing at Perrigo where he championed major healthcare initiatives and led several of the most successful product launches in the company’s history.
Paul Terranova
Managing Partner, Commercial Operations
Paul retired from OrVance as Vice President of Sales & Marketing and continues to serve as a Managing Partner to oversee commercial operations. In his ongoing role, Paul serves as an OrVance Board Member, an Advisory Board Member to the OrVance-DOC Brands Venture, and is the liaison with DOC Brands to help guide the commercial plans and financial results under the licensing agreement. Paul has over 30 years of experience in the consumer packaged goods industry and before joining OrVance in 2018, had spent 22 years in various key sales and marketing positions at Perrigo, a leading consumer healthcare company.
Mike Smurr
President of Professional Channel Development
Mike leads the sales and marketing for the OrVance® products in the dental and orthodontic channels, and is also an OrVance Board Member. Mike has spent over 40 years in the dental industry with time on both the manufacturing and distribution sides of the business. Mike is also the Founder of MTS Partners, a firm that provides business development, marketing and sales consulting for the professional dental market. Prior to starting MTS Partners and joining the OrVance team in 2018, Mike retired from Patterson Dental where he was the Director of Marketing, Merchandise, responsible for manufacturer relations and the sales & marketing of all merchandise.
Laura Jones
Sales and Customer Service Manager
Since 2018, Laura has played a key role in supporting the sales and customer service efforts for OrVance. Laura now manages these functions for the OrVance® products across both the professional and consumer channels within the OrVance-DOC Brands Venture. Prior to joining the OrVance team, Laura worked in various Sales & Category Management positions for leading companies including SC Johnson, Time Warner, and The Clorox Company. She earned her degree in Food Marketing from Western Michigan University.
Joe Harris
Director of Digital Marketing
As a highly strategic initiative for the continued growth of the OrVance® brand and products, Joe leads the planning and execution for digital marketing efforts across both the consumer and professional channels. Joe is a graduate from Central Michigan University in Business & Marketing and continued his education to become certified in Search Ads, Google Analytics, Shopping Ads, Mobile Ads, Display Ads and Video Ads. He also completed his education with Facebook and is a certified Media Buying Professional on their platform. Joe is also the Founder of FTI Management, a Digital Marketing Agency.
Michael Silver, PhD
Co-Founder & Managing Partner, R&D and Technical Affairs
Since the start-up 2014, Dr. Silver has brought considerable scientific and organizational talent to the OrVance endeavor and has led product development, intellectual property, quality and regulatory compliance. Mike continues to lead these functions and serves as an OrVance Board Member. Mike did his PhD in Chemistry at Cornell University, postdoctoral studies at Northwestern University, and is a Professor Emeritus at Hope College. Dr. Silver has over 30 years of experience in academia with over 20 research publications, working with industry to develop novel materials and is the inventor on over 50 patents.
Eric Hannapel
Founder, Board Member & Innovation Advisor
Dr. Hannapel has been a practicing Orthodontist since 1996 and received his dental degree and orthodontic residency from the University of Michigan. Eric also donates his time to the Cleft Palate Board of Specialists at Helen DeVos Children’s Hospital and provides treatment. He also teaches at the University of Michigan in the Orthodontics and Pediatric Dentistry Department as an Adjunct Clinical Assistant Professor. Eric has been invaluable to OrVance in the start-up and early stages given his passion to develop solutions that enhance treatment for patients and practices.
Scott Tyler, DDS MS
Innovation Advisor
Dr. Tyler is a founding Partner of one of the most successful and respected Orthodontic Practices in Michigan, TDR Orthodontics. Scott has been voted as Top Doc in Hour Detroit Magazine every year since its inception. He has held several advisory board positions and has spoken to orthodontic associations around the world about the benefits of robotic technology in the field of orthodontics.
Scott attended dental school at the University of Michigan, received his Masters in Orthodontics from Northwestern, and has received several awards for outstanding performance.
Mart McClellan, DDS MS
Innovation & Financial Advisor
Dr. McClellan brings a valuable perspective to OrVance because he is not only a financial & securities expert but also a practicing orthodontist. Mart received his dental degree from Northwestern University and did his orthodontic residency at the University of Michigan. Mart is also President of Macro Wealth Management, a Registered Investment Advisor (RIA), and is registered in multiple states in the areas of securities and insurance.
Brian Tyler, DDS
Innovation Advisor
Dr. Tyler graduated from the University of Michigan Dental School in 1982 and has practiced dentistry in Rochester, Michigan, since 1984. After 40 years in dentistry, Brian decided to hang up his lab coat but continues to provide great thought leadership related to opportunities for OrVance to bring oral health innovation to consumers and practices.
Todd Van Thomme, J.D.
Intellectual Property Counsel
Todd is an intellectual property attorney and a shareholder at Nyemaster Goode P.C. in Des Moines, Iowa. He has extensive experience authoring and prosecuting patent applications across a wide array of technologies, including medical devices, mechanical, and pharmaceutical/chemical related patent applications. He also served as President of the Association of Intellectual Property Firms (AIPF) from 2010 to 2012.
